Addressing the need for affordable housing in Denton since 1995…
Denton Affordable Housing Corporation (DAHC) is a community-based nonprofit organization which began operating in 1995 to address the need for affordable housing in Denton. DAHC’s mission is to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Denton area through a variety of means, including acquisition, construction, renovation, promotion, financing, support, development, management, and/or operation and maintenance of both rental and owner-occupied housing for persons of limited financial means.
The primary populations targeted for assistance include first-time homebuyers, persons with disabilities, elderly persons, homeless families with children and individuals and families in need of safe, adequate, and affordable housing. DAHC is also committed to cooperating with and providing support to organizations within the community that encourage housing assistance activities, and to assist generally in the alleviation of the shortage of decent housing for low and moderate-income persons throughout the Denton area.
DAHC owns and manages a portfolio of 80 rental units which are primarily reserved for special needs populations. For the most part, these units are located on scattered sites throughout the City of Denton. A few of the units are located in the neighboring communities of Sanger and Corinth. It has been DAHC’s policy to avoid concentrating too many units occupied by special needs tenants in any one location. Integrating these families into stable existing neighborhoods avoids the stigma often attached to a “project”.
