DAHC’s History

In response to recommendations from the City of Denton Mayor’s Task Force on Affordable Housing, the Denton Affordable Housing Corporation was formed in 1993. The Corporation was initially capitalized with grants from the Denton County Housing Finance Corporation and HOME Investment Partnership Program funds awarded by the City of Denton. Beginning with a budget of less than $100,000, the Board of Directors hired their first Executive Director and opened the door for business in June of 1995. Over a 10-year period, DAHC has secured public and private-sector financing from a number of sources to accomplish its goals. During that period of time, 160 single-family homes have been built or acquired and renovated, then made available to low-to-moderate income first-time buyers. DAHC also provided down-payment and closing cost assistance to most of the homebuyers. Additionally, hundreds of very-low-income tenants have been provided decent housing in stable neighborhoods, at very affordable rents. With a current annual budget exceeding $6 million, DAHC is recognized as a leader in the promotion and production of affordable housing in the Denton area.
